Vietnam Corporate Culture: A Harmonious Blend of Prosperity and Serve Society

9999🏅Dale Carnegie Vietnam is honored to receive the Commendation from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism - being one of the three entities recognized for actively participating in the "Building Vietnam's Corporate Culture" campaign.

💚 The National Forum, held annually in 2023 under the theme "Business Culture - the Stream of Development and Integration," took place on the afternoon of November 25th in Ho Chi Minh City. This event was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Association for the Development of Corporate Culture in Vietnam.

🌳 The forum is a significant event aimed at honoring, encouraging, and contributing to enhancing the business culture role of Vietnamese enterprises and entrepreneurs in the context of the VUCA world, technological revolution, and digital transformation. It serves as an opportunity for Party and State leaders to meet and exchange with the business community, listen to suggestions, and propose mechanisms and policies to support enterprises. The forum focuses on building business culture, fostering a corporate culture, and widespread promotion of the "Building Vietnam's Corporate Culture" campaign initiated by the Prime Minister.

In the realm of economy construction and development, the Vietnamese Government and several businesses have always emphasized the importance of building corporate culture and its role in production and business activities. This, in turn, propels businesses towards continuous development, contributing to the nation's sustainable growth.

“Doing Business to Get Rich or to Serve Society?”

A highlight of the forum was a panel discussion, themed "Doing Business to Get Rich or to Serve Society?", in which saw Ms. Nguyen Trinh Khanh Linh, President, and CEO of Dale Carnegie Vietnam, gracefully embodying the role of Social Service. The topic sparked attention and fostered a vibrant atmosphere of sharing and defending diverse perspectives on the essence of Vietnam's business.

In her sharing session, Ms. Linh emphasized meaningful and balanced viewpoints: Getting rich is not only a worthy primary goal but also a necessary motivation for sustainable development. Businesses are contributing to the international arena, creating value through high-quality products and services. Simultaneously, genuine social service is essential for societal development, needing sincerity and commitment beyond trends or status displays.

"At the same time, I have a certain concern about the phrase 'Making money to serve society.' We must be very careful when talking about the story of social service because it can be substantial or borrowed. Social service is not just a trend: if my friend opens a charity fund, I also have to open one to show my status. [...] Social service, in my opinion, is not just an action; it also needs a heart. Social service needs to appear in the mission of the organization's existence and needs to be demonstrated in the consistent action commitment from the top down of the entire organization. That is when it is called social service."

Serve Social is Bringing Value to Oneself

Ms. Linh also shared a belief drawn from Dale Carnegie's 111-year history worldwide: "I think social service is helping others, but in reality, it is bringing value to oneself." As Uncle Ho once said: "The country's affairs and family affairs must always go hand in hand. The prosperity of the national economy means the prosperity of the business of the Industrial and Commercial sector."

"It means, just like fish - in lakes, rivers, seas, oceans, we also need a water environment and living beings cohabiting healthily for us to be able to germinate and develop. Our businesses are the same. We also need to set the business mission as social service to contribute, to developing the community. Only then do we have a business environment that creates conditions for sustainable development."

"With the mission since its founding day: Building a Dale Carnegie Human Relations Environment in Vietnam!" Dale Carnegie's various projects, from global knowledge sharing initiatives to local community contributions, exemplify their commitment to serving society. These efforts reflect their dedication to spreading positive values in the community.

From the Global Day of Giving where all Dale Carnegie offices worldwide contribute by sharing knowledge to business communities to enhance aspirations; the annual Global Leadership Direction Research  identifying priority directions for breakthrough business development; or the Dale Carnegie Wisdom Flower Library delivering thousands of books to schools in remote areas, aiding children in utilizing books for their future development.  The desire to serve has helped Dale Carnegie extend its arms, engaging true friends who voluntarily help spread beautiful values to the community.

After an in-depth debate, the consensus reached highlighted Vietnamese businesses and entrepreneurs' harmonious blend of wealth creation and social service. These two qualities are not opposed but complement and support each other. Vietnamese businesses and entrepreneurs need to balance these two objectives and not sacrifice one for the other.

Social Service is the Mission - an Important Companion to Wealth Creation

Corporate culture is not solely about profit, but also about the mission of serving society. By combining wealth creation and service, businesses can create sustainable value not only for themselves but also for society. Above all, corporate culture sets a larger vision with a mission to serve the community. Social service needs to be a mission of existence, and when we serve, we make it for ourselves.

In the current rapidly changing social context, corporate culture itranscends mere strategy, becoming a crucial step towards a sustainable future. The flexible combination of profit and social responsibility is not only necessary but also the key to survival and development in today's era.

The panel discussions enriched delegates with valuable insights, honoring Vietnamese businesses' unique culture and offering a platform for stakeholders to exchange experiences in the new era of business culture.
